VIAJE EXPRESS A LAMU (KENIA)

Hola a todos, para los que no lo sepáis, Alma en Pena comenzó un proyecto de apoyo y colaboración con una ONG que trabaja en Lamu, Kenia. Está ONG se llama Afrikable y su labor básicamente es ayudar a la mujer en Kenia, darla un trabajo digno, educación, y autosuficiencia para poder alimentar y cuidar a sus hijos. Generalmente son mujeres abandonadas, dado que en Kenia existe la poligamia, y es bastante frecuente encontrar mujeres con niños solas, que tienen muchos problemas para poder subsistir. Mónica Gil, colaboradora en el diseño de Alma en Pena, nos descubrió este mundo tan increíble. Se embarcó el pasado año en unas "vacaciones solidarias" en esta ONG, y descubrió otro mundo, con cosas muy malas y también cosas maravillosas, hasta el punto de contagiarnos con su ilusión y embarcarnos en este precioso proyecto.

It is called Afrikable NGOs and their work basically is to help women in Kenya, give it a decent job , education, and self-sufficiency to feed and care for their children. Generally women are abandoned , since there is polygamy in Kenya, and it is quite common to find single women with children who have many problems to survive.  Monica Gil , a partner in the design of Alma en Pena, we discovered this incredible world . He embarked last year on a " solidarity holidays " in this NGO , and discovered another world , very bad things and wonderful things , to the point that infect us with their enthusiasm and embark on this beautiful project.

En la ONG, las mujeres, principalmente Masai, realizan pulseras, colgantes, adornos para casa, bolsas y toallas de telas Africanas espectaculares, etc, todos estos productos los venden en la web de la ONG, www.afrikable.org, pero lo que mejor hacen y lo que resulta más peculiar son los abalorios realizados con bolitas de colores, tan típicos Masai, y es aquí donde pensamos que estos adornos de bolitas serían ideales para hacer sandalias.

Fue un trabajo duro, sobre todo para Lola y Merche, fundadoras de la ONG, que sin tener ni idea de como se hace un zapato, lograron encontrar un maestro que entendiera bien de pieles, hormas, etc, y pudiera enseñar a las mujeres, que están encantadas con todo el proyecto.

El trabajo ha sido fantástico, las mujeres están emocionadas, porque para ellas todo esto es un mundo nuevo, se sienten independientes, más seguras.

Las sandalias están quedando genial, con unos acabados muy cuidados, los adornos, los pespuntes, todo hecho con mucho cariño.

La Ong ha cambiado su lugar de trabajo, se han situado a las afueras de Lamu, en un terreno nuevo que en Kenia se llama samba. Han creado un taller donde poder trabajar y un lugar para que los voluntarios duerman y los niños y mujeres puedan dar sus clases. Han invertido lo poco que tenían en mejorar todo, para poder dedicarse íntegramente a realizar calzado.

The sandals are running great with manicured finishes , trims , stitching , all done with love.

The Ong has changed their workplace, have been at the outskirts of Lamu , a new land in Kenya is called samba. They have created a workshop where to work and a place to sleep volunteers and children and women can give their classes.

They have invested what little they had to improve everything to devote entirely to make shoes.
